3-Day Plein Air Pastel Workshop

"Fundamentals of Landscape Painting in Pastels"

Painting outdoors is an essential discipline for every artist. This workshop is an introduction to the fundamentals of pastel painting in the field. If you have not done it before, painting outdoors can be overwhelming. This workshop will guide you! Denise will be teaching how to edit the landscape and to see values and colors outdoors, using methods, tips, and techniques that can help you eliminate the obstacles sometimes associated with painting in the field.

We will study the importance of taking the time to find your focus, your response to the subject, and clarifying your vision using thumbnail sketches. Students will spend a portion of each day learning to design and compose these sketches which help develop observational and drawing skills. Then, we move forward a step, learning how to orchestrate the whole subject into a unified painting by simplifying what you see before you.

Friday - Sunday, October 19 - 21, 2018

9:00 am – 4:00 pm daily
